Yarn Diet? What Yarn Diet?

I have been on a serious yarn diet since we picked up and moved house a year ago. While the mountain of yarn that I moved was helpful for packing delicate objects, I was stunned and chagrined to see the amount of yarn that I had somehow accumulated. Even if I didn't have to work for a living, I would never be able to knit all of that yarn. I've been very practical this past year, and have only bought two skeins of black yarn to complete the Philosopher's Wool sweater. Oh, and that amazing sock yarn that jumped into my bag while I was in the shop. And the yarn I bought in Europe this summer. But really, I have been quite restrained, and I have managed to pare down quite a bit of my stash.

But then the Knitpicks catalog came. I couldn't take it anymore. I bought yarn and a pattern to make this sweater:

for my non-sweater-wearing husband. He's more of a flannel shirt/sweatshirt kind of guy. Before I bought the yarn I asked him if he would wear this sweater if I made it. He said yes. We shall see. It'll be the first sweater I've made him, and we've been together for 5 years. He's married to me now, so the boyfriend sweater curse should not come into play. I'm going on a big non-driving road trip the first week in October, and I'm saving starting the sweater for the trip.

And, because I've been reading a lot more blogs at work these days, and almost every one I read mentions Rhinebeck, I've decided to give in and go. I've been twice in the past, once during grad school when I lived in Albany, and one other time. I checked mapquest and it's only a 5 hour drive from where we live now. One big problem is that Brian is getting all of his wisdom teeth pulled on Friday October 20th. My plan is to nurse him for Friday and most of Saturday and then ditch him for Rhinebeck on Sunday. This may be really selfish of me. I'm not sure. He should be o.k. He can even come along if he wants to! I really want to join the Rhinebeck blogger bingo, but I'm going to wait until I'm sure I'm going.
